The general checking, adjusting and setting up of a brass or woodwind instrument to make sure it is in good working order and appropriate playing condition for another year of use.
Just like getting a WOF for your car keeps you on top of all the general maintenance it requires to keep it safe to drive on the road, a general service keeps you on top of the general maintenance of your instrument. Take care of your instrument and your instrument will take care of you!

- General adjustments to primary key mechanisms and functions to make playable.
- General checking, adjusting and re-aligning of keys. (excessively or many bent keys charged separately on a case by case basis)
- Checking for leaks and cracks. (actual crack repairs charged separately, per crack)
- General improvements of weakly sealing pads and joints where appropriate to make playable. This may include re-seating of skin/leather/gortex style pads, re-surfacing of cork pads or straight pad replacement of up to approximately 4-5 pads where required. (instruments with many or extreme pad adjustments/replacements required, or instruments with excessively leaking joints to be assessed and quoted separately) (Standard skin/felt pads included in gen service prices, other pads available on request, at extra cost, charged per pad)
- Several basic cork & felt replacements as and where required (eg, tenon corks, adjustment corks, bumper corks/felts etc. Instruments with excessive cork replacements to be quoted separately)
- Key Oiling
- Bore oiling (for int. & pro. wooden body oboes)
- All instruments are play tested by our fully qualified technicians to assess playability and proper key function etc. (Technicians use their own reeds)

Notes to self:
- If you are experiencing specific problems with playability, sound production, key function etc please let us know when you bring your instrument in for servicing. We can do all the checks and improvement within a general service, but sometimes problems experienced can differ from player to player.
- The more information you give us, the better the job we can do for you!
- Intermittent problems are hard to diagnose and subsequently can be very difficult to solve. If any problems you experience are intermittent make sure to let us know and we will do our very best to solve them where we can. This may require repeat visits or extended time in the shop with a technician to work through with you.
